Spun cotton is an old world method of creating ornaments and figures. It began as a homemade craft in 19th century Germany, when local artisans would mold or wrap cotton batting into shapes (often fruits, vegetables, and holiday figures) and adorn them with sparkly mica chips or glass glitter. These beautifully simple old world techniques are still available to us today, but rarely used.

All of my spun cotton ornaments are made simply and traditionally with wire, cotton, corn starch, water, paint, and authentic embellishments such as mica flakes and German glass glitter.
